Warren County, New Jersey

The river towns and the farm roads, every call answered.

AI phone agents for the service businesses of Warren County, built one county over in Sparta: the shop’s own name on the line, every call answered, the missed ones texted back, jobs booked to the calendar the shop already runs. $297 a month, 400 minutes included, then 30 cents a minute, setup quoted per shop.

The county, as the agent sees it.

Warren County is the western edge of North Jersey, and the Delaware is the western edge of Warren. Route 80 runs the top of it out to the Water Gap, 46 and 57 run the middle, 31 runs north to south, and the work is spread along all four. A plumber in Washington takes a call from Blairstown and another from Pohatcong the same morning, and there is no quick way between them. The phone rings in the truck the whole time.

The calls have the shape of the country. Wells and septic on much of the land outside the towns, so no water is a well pump before it is anything else. Long driveways a tech has to be told about. Barns with their own line. A generator that has to carry the house and the stock through an outage. In Belvidere, Phillipsburg and Hackettstown the housing is older and closer together, with the boilers and the cast iron that go with it. Same shop, two different weeks.

Then there is the bridge. Phillipsburg sits across the river from Pennsylvania, and the contractors on that bank cross it every day to work in Warren. A homeowner in Lopatcong who searches for a plumber gets names from both sides of the river and calls until somebody picks up. The shop on voicemail is not in that conversation. Whether the search said AI receptionist or AI phone agent, what the caller hears is the shop’s name, and an answer.

The founder is in Sparta, next door. Close enough to sit at the counter in Hackettstown or Belvidere, hear how the calls actually come in, and write the agent on that instead of on a form.

01 · one call, Blairstown

A well pump at 6:40 AM, on a farm road.

Not a highlight reel. One early call, the kind a Warren County well and pump shop gets every week: a farm outside Blairstown, no water in the house or the barn, and an owner with stock to water before anything else in the day happens.

The part to notice is what the agent asks first. The breaker and the gauge are the shop’s questions, written in at setup, because the shop would rather know before the truck rolls. The agent asks them in the shop’s order and does not guess at what the answers mean.

The driveway is the other part. The tech gets the note about the bridge, the gate and the barn before the truck leaves. And when the caller asks what a pump costs, they do not get a number. That stays with the owner.

  • The shop’s screening questions, in the shop’s order
  • The shop’s rule on who goes first, not the agent’s
  • The driveway note on the ticket before the truck rolls
  • Pricing stays the owner’s call

Sample call · 6:40 AM · Blairstown Illustrative
Agent “Halvorsen Well and Pump, good morning. What’s going on?”
Caller “No water. None in the house, none out at the barn. I’ve got forty head to water and the pump isn’t doing anything.”
Agent “Okay. Two quick questions the shop asks first. Is the breaker for the pump tripped, and what is the gauge on the pressure tank reading?”
Caller “Breaker’s fine, I flipped it anyway. Gauge is on zero.”
Agent “Got it, both go on the ticket. What’s the address?”
Caller “We’re on a farm road off 94, north of Blairstown. Second driveway after the one-lane bridge. The gate’s open, come around the back of the barn, not up to the house.”
Agent “Off 94 north of Blairstown, second driveway after the one-lane bridge, gate open, around the back of the barn. That goes on the ticket word for word. And the best number to reach you on?”
Caller “This one. 908, 555, 0142.”
Agent “Thank you. No water with stock on the property goes out first under Halvorsen’s morning rule, so you are the first truck out. I’ve put you in the 7:30 opening, and the tech will call you when the truck is on its way.”
Caller “What does a new pump run? Just so I know.”
Agent “The owner prices every job once he has looked at the pump, and he will tell you before any work starts. What I can do is make sure he knows it is a farm with stock and no water.”
Caller “All right. That’s fair.”
Agent “You’ll get a text in a second with the time, the shop’s number and what I’ve logged, so nothing gets repeated at the gate. Hang tight.”

The trades the county runs on.

One agent, written differently for each of them. What it asks on the phone is what the shop would ask, in the order the shop would ask it.

  • Hackettstown to Phillipsburg

    HVAC

Oil and propane out on the farm roads, gas in the river towns, and the first hard freeze finds every tired furnace in the county the same night. A no-heat call in Hope and another in Pohatcong come in three minutes apart, with 80 backed up between them. The agent takes the address, the fuel, the system and what it is doing, and books the first opening the truck can reach.

  • Wells and septic

    Plumbing, well and septic

Outside Belvidere, Hackettstown and Phillipsburg many a house is on its own well and its own field. No water is a pump or a pressure tank before it is a faucet, a septic alarm at dinner is a different call from a slow drain, and the shop wrote the questions that sort them. The agent asks those and flags the ones that cannot wait for morning.

    The plumbing page
  • Barns, additions, pole buildings

    Contractors and remodelers

The pole barn in Allamuchy, the kitchen in an Oxford farmhouse, the porch in Hope that has been put off two summers. These calls want a walk of the site, not a phone quote, and the homeowner has usually called a name from the Pennsylvania side the same afternoon. The agent takes the scope, the address and the timeline and books the visit. The pricing stays with the owner.

    The contractors page
  • Generators and outages

    Electricians and generators

When a storm comes down the river and the lines drop along 46, every electrician in the county gets the same afternoon. A farm with stock cannot sit without power, and neither can a well pump. The agent answers all of it, separates the panel that is smoking from the standby quote that can wait, and texts back the calls that came in while it was already on the line.

  • Spring to first snow

    Tree, landscaping and snow

Long driveways to plow, a fence line to clear, the oak down across a farm lane in Independence after a night of wind. The season decides when the phone rings, and the crew is on a saw or a plow when it does. The agent takes the address and what is down, and books the look.

  • Belvidere to Washington

    The storefronts in town

The restaurant on the square in Belvidere, the salon on Main Street in Hackettstown, the shop in Washington that closes at six and gets calls until nine. If the phone is the front door, the agent works the same way: answered, booked, or handed to the person who should take it.

    All the industries

What it does here, and where it stops.

The limits belong on the page. A Warren County owner asks about them on the first call anyway, so here they are before the call.

What it does

  • Knows the shop’s service area, so “do you come out past Blairstown?” and “do you cross the river?” get the shop’s real answers
  • Follows the shop’s own rule on who goes first: no water with stock, no heat in January, whatever the shop decided at setup
  • Texts back within seconds when it is already on another call, and carries on in the thread
  • Books only openings the truck can actually reach, on the calendar the shop already runs

What it will not do

  • It does not quote a price unless you turn that on. Out of the box, pricing stays yours.
  • It does not diagnose. A well pump, a furnace or a panel gets looked at by a tech on site. The screening questions are yours, and it asks them as written.
  • It does not pretend to be a person, ever, if somebody asks.
  • It does not replace your office. It takes the calls nobody was there for.

02 · the number

$297 a month, and the meter is printed right here.

That covers 400 minutes on the phone, which is somewhere around 130 calls in a month at about three minutes a call. Past that it is 30 cents a minute. Setup is a one time fee, quoted for your shop once we know what the agent has to plug into.

The allowance and the overage rate are on this page on purpose. A surprise usage bill is the fastest way to lose somebody, and you should be able to do the arithmetic yourself before you ever call us.

The big AI pitch is to raise margins by cutting the people who answer the phone. We think there is a better way.

Four questions a Warren County owner asks.

01Does the agent know the towns?

Yes, from the shop’s own list. Whether you searched for an AI receptionist or an AI phone agent, what gets built is written on the shop’s service area, town by town: Blairstown, Hope and Allamuchy but not over the Sussex line, or the whole county but not across the river.

When a caller in Pohatcong asks whether you come out that far, the answer is the one you would give, and the list changes whenever your territory does.

02Is the setup in person?

It can be. Warren is next door to Sussex, so the free consultation and the setup can happen at your counter in Hackettstown, Washington or Belvidere, or by video if that fits the week better. Hours are 8 AM to 8 PM Eastern, seven days a week.

The agent itself runs on your phone line, so nothing gets installed in the office, and you hear it answer your own line before it goes live.

03What about the rest of North Jersey?

Same agent, same price. MarginMax is based in Sparta and works with service businesses across Sussex, Morris, Warren, Passaic, Bergen, Essex, Hunterdon, Somerset and Hudson counties.

The agent runs on a phone line, so it works for a shop anywhere in New Jersey. The in-person part, the consultation and a setup visit when one is needed, is North Jersey.

04What does it cost?

$297 a month, 400 minutes included, then 30 cents a minute, setup quoted per shop. There are no tiers and no bundles. 400 minutes works out to roughly 130 calls a month at about three minutes a call.
